Services For You Settlement Agreements

Settlement Agreements, formally known as a compromise agreement, is a legally binding contract made between employer and employee, usually used in connection with ending employment on agreed terms or to settle a dispute.

If your employer has asked you to sign a settlement agreement, it is a legal requirement, and in your best interest, to seek independent legal advice on the terms before signing. In most cases your employer will contribute towards your legal costs of receiving this advice.

Themis Solicitors can provide expert advice and guidance on settlement agreements and ensure you fully understand your rights, the effects of the settlement agreement and whether or not the proposed settlement is in your best interests.

If you have been offered a settlement agreement by your current employer, fill out the contact form and one of our expert solicitors will contact you.

Reaching a settlement agreement

When you sign a settlement agreement, you are effectively agreeing not to bring certain claims against your employer, usually after agreeing binding terms and receiving a sum of money. Once you have signed a settlement agreement you will no longer be able to make an employment tribunal claim or any other type of claim listed in the agreement.

For the settlement agreement to be legally binding there are certain requirements must be met which include:

  • The settlement agreement must be in writing.
  • The settlement agreement must relate to a particular complaint or proceedings.
